Military Records Showing Blackstones

1817, First Seminole War

James and Argyle Blackstone (brothers) are listed in the Index to Volunteer Soldiers in Indian Wars and Disturbances, 1815-1858, transcribed by Virgil D. White.  They served in Milton's 1'st Regiment of GA Mil in the Seminole War of 1817 - 1818.  James Blackstone was the husband of Rebecca Newman, and Argyle Blackstone was the husband of Sarah Burgess.  Others that served in this regiment were:  Pvt. William Harper, Isham Hatcher, Pvt. Isaac Peavy, William Spears.

  • Barney's Company, GA Infantry (Richmond Factory Guards, Also known as Augusta Volunteer Artillery, Georgia Washington Artillery), Private, GSI# 8321 on the GEORGIA CIVIL WAR SOLDIER INDEX - Page 14
  •  Zephaniah is listed as 27 years and 7 months old, Factory Employee, b. GA, in the 18’th Senatorial District – 124’th Militia District, of the Census for Re-Organizing the Georgia Militia, 1864

1st Lt. Argyle Blackstone-Mustered into I Co. 48th Georgia Volunteer Infantry known as the "Wilson Tigers" on March 4, 1862. Wounded in Seven Days Fight near Richmond Va. June 26, 1862. Detailed in Augusta, GA cotton mills October 1862. Elected 1st Lt. of Captain Barney's Company (Richmond Factory Guards), July 29, 1863. Roll for August 24, 1863, only roll on file, shows him present.

Pvt. George L. Blackstone-Mustered into I Co. 48th Georgia Volunteer Infantry known as the "Wilson Tigers" on March 4, 1862. Killed at Wilcox's Farm near Petersberg, Va. June 22, 1864.

Pvt. Thomas L. Blackstone-Mustered into I Co. 48th Georgia Volunteer Infantry known as the "Wilson Tigers" on March 4, 1862. Died in service prior to June 1862.

Pvt. William A. Blackstone-Mustered into I Co. 48th Georgia Volunteer Infantry known as the "Wilson Tigers" on March 4, 1862. Died at home August 25, 1862.

Pvt. H.C. Blackstone-Mustered into K Co. 16th Georgia Volunteer Infantry known as the "Ramsey Vols" on March 1, 1863. Enlisted as a private in Co. K, 48th Georgia Volunteer Infantry on March 4, 1862. Transferred to Co. K, 16th Regiment Ga. Inf. March 1, 1863. Captured at Sailor's Creek Va. April 6, 1865. Released at Newport News, Va. June 25, 1865.

Pvt. James W. Blackstone-Mustered into F Co. 10th Georgia Volunteer Infantry known as the "Thomson Guards" on May 11, 1861. Died of disease at Williamsburg, Va. November 18, 1861.

Pvt. John T. Blackstone-Mustered into F Co. 10th Georgia Volunteer Infantry known as the "Thomson Guards" on May 11, 1861. On detached service in hospital department at Williamsburg, Va. January 1862. No later record.

Pvt. Francis M. Blackston-private March 10, 1862.  Died June 21, 1862.
