Court Records

Below is a chronological list of Blackston(e)s that are listed in some old loose papers from the Richmond County Superior Court and some Inferior Court papers.  In the past 5 or 6 years, the Augusta Genealogical Society has put together a database with all of the names listed on these documents.  AGS members can access this information at the AGS in Augusta and print information about the document.  The AGS is in the process of putting all of these records on microfilm so we can see the originals, but don't hold your breath.

What can these records tell us that is not obvious?

  1. You had to be of age (21 years old) to be on a jury.
  2. You had to own property to be on a jury.
  3. The date these folks were in Richmond County, GA.
