Deuteronomy 8: 7  "For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with streams and pools of water, with springs flowing in the valleys and hills;"

Psalm 98:8 "Let the rivers clap their hands,"

Psalm 104:10 - "He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains."

* Disclaimer:  I do not sell or warrant anything on this page (Except Wonderware).  I post this here to share information and any suggestions for improvements to my system would be appreciated.  I really don't know what I'm doing (other than a 3 day Micro-Hydro class at Appalachian State University), every day is an ongoing experiment with this stuff.

Microhydro is the primary source of electricity for the cabin.  Grid power is available, but why buy it when you can make your own?

Head:  70'
Penstock:   450' of 4" schedule 40 PVC pipe
Flow:  Fall, Winter, Spring:  Available flow for micro hydro during non-summer months ~ 120 -300 GPM
Summer:  Available flow for micro hydro during summer months ~ 20 - 80 GPM
Output:  Fall, Winter, Spring: ~ 500 Watts  -1 KW continuous, 12 - 24 KW per day
Summer/Drought: ~ 175  - 400 Watts continuous, 4.2 - 10 KW per day.  This is my first summer with the system online,. so I am guessing.

Engineer 775 was kind enough to come visit and post a video of the turbine on his You Tube channel.

My rock weir/spillway with coanda screen.

Location of the weir is above this waterfall.  The blue line shows the path of the pipe.

My penstock drops off an 80' cliff here.   This is where the majority of head comes from.

This is another stream on my property that is not part of the current system, but it could be utilized if needed in the future.

Low Current/Low Pressure Water System
Well Pump, SHURflo 9300.  These are very sensitive to silt, which I have a lot of in my well due to the degrading blu granite on the mountain.  After two clogged units, SHURflo tech support recommended covering the unit with a ladies nylon stocking and since I did this, I have not had any more problems.  I also moved the unit to a well depth of 65' which is a considerable distance from the bottom of the well sleeve at 100'.

Potential low cost data gathering hardware   This is a good way to provide sms text messages for lots of notification needs.
Low cost wireless data pipe I am experimenting with.  This is what I am using for remote internet access (no phone line, no cable) to push data to my web portal that will display alarms and KPI's.
